Rajasthan Pilgrimages - Jagdish Temple
The famous saying of Unity in diversity has again proved true over here. The Jagannath temple is a quite famous temple and god in Bengal. Again the same temple god with a different name also exists in Udaipur. In Udaipur city it is known as Jagdish temple.
Jagdish temple in Udaipur again has many options of transport. Like if you are staying in Udaipur then you can easily hire auto rickshaws and taxis. But you have to be little careful, as they don't have a meter facility. Ask the hotel authorities or the native person about the right fares required for reaching your desired place and then hire a taxi or any other vehicle. It is an Indo-Aryan temple built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651. It is 300 meters away from the north of Badi Pol. To view this holy place of Udaipur you need to climb a series of thirty-two steps, which had elevated the temple to a height of 24 kms. This elevated temple can easily be viewed from City Palace. The foothold of the Jagdish temple steps has two spotless white elephants on both the sides to greet you to the temple. The exterior wall of the holy temple is made up of local stone The principal god in this pilgrimage center is lord Vishnu or jagannath which is a idol of black stone. There is some fixed time for darshan to the temple and during this time you can hear the worshippers chanting spiritual hymns in praise of the lord.
In this pilgrimage center of Udaipur there are also other small temples. One of the temple is dedicated to lord Ganesha, other to the sun god also commonly known as Surya. The third holy temple is dedicated to the mother goddess also known as Amba or Ambika and Lord Shiva. A smaller temple is dedicated to lord Krishna and Radha. And in the entrance of this pilgrimage center you can find the temple of Garuda. It is a figure of half-man and half-eagle and the idol is made up of bronze. This figure has a particular importance.
